How to cancel or unsubscribe from The New York Times

How to cancel or unsubscribe from The New York Times: Sign in to your account at nytimes.com (or myaccount.nytimes.com). Official path: chat. If you subscribed through the Apple App Store or Google Play, NYT cannot cancel it - cancel in that app store instead; and click all the way to the final confirmation, expect a discount offer to keep you.

Official steps

  1. Sign in to your account at nytimes.com (or myaccount.nytimes.com).
  2. Open Account, then Subscription Overview, then the Manage Subscription section.
  3. Click 'Cancel your Subscription' (or use the chat bubble on help.nytimes.com if no self-cancel button appears).
  4. You are routed to a live agent chat (or phone) unless your state/subscription type allows one-click online cancel.
  5. Decline the retention discount offer if you truly want out.
  6. Click through to the final confirmation screen and save the confirmation/cancellation number.

Do I need an account?

Cancellation requires signing into the account owner's NYT login and completing a live agent chat or phone retention flow, with no order-number guest path to automate.

Window, fees & policy notes

No return window - it is a subscription cancel; refund of the current cycle is at agent discretion (~30 days modeled), no early-termination fee; California/online-signup users get a self-service online cancel, but App Store/Google Play subscriptions must be cancelled in that store.
