How to return IKEA

How to return IKEA: Choose a return method: bring the item to any IKEA store (free), mail a small item, or schedule a paid home pickup for large/delivered furniture. Official path: in person. 365 days unopened / 180 days opened with proof of purchase (mattress: one-time exchange within 90 days); in-store returns free, no standard prepaid mail label, home pickup for large items ~$50–$100+ (waived if damaged/defective), no restocking fee; non-returnable: plants, cut fabric/textiles, custom countertops, and "as-is" clearance.

Official steps

  1. Choose a return method: bring the item to any IKEA store (free), mail a small item, or schedule a paid home pickup for large/delivered furniture.
  2. In-store: enter through the "Exchanges & returns" entrance and go to the desk.
  3. Bring the merchandise, a photo ID, your receipt or online order confirmation, and the payment card used for the purchase.
  4. For a small item, start at ikea.com/us/en/returns/ and download/print the return packing slip, then mail the package yourself.
  5. For large or delivered furniture, call IKEA Customer Support at 1-888-888-4532 to schedule a paid home pickup.
  6. Refund is issued to the original payment method (365 days unopened / 180 days opened, with proof of purchase).

Do I need an account?

There is no guest order-lookup portal that produces a return label; the primary method is an in-person store visit, small items must be self-mailed, and large furniture requires a paid, phone-scheduled home pickup.

Window, fees & policy notes

365 days unopened / 180 days opened with proof of purchase (mattress: one-time exchange within 90 days); in-store returns free, no standard prepaid mail label, home pickup for large items ~$50–$100+ (waived if damaged/defective), no restocking fee; non-returnable: plants, cut fabric/textiles, custom countertops, and "as-is" clearance.

What you do yourself

Open official page

Phone: 1-888-888-4532 (Every day, 8:00 AM–12:00 AM ET)

Enter via the "Exchanges & returns" entrance with the item, a photo ID, your receipt or online order confirmation, and the payment card used. Not accepted at Planning Studio or Pick-Up Point locations.

Gotcha: In-store returns are free; a home pickup for large items costs ~$50–$100+ (waived only if the item is damaged/defective), so haul furniture to the store yourself if you can.
